The Church

A conference room, library and Fireside room provide prayer, study and meeting space for smaller groups.  The library receives particular care and offers a variety of resources for all ages. The church offices open onto a pleasant courtyard.  A spacious Parish Hall, previously the worship space, serves many purposes and is available for rentals to the community.

The education wing serves both the Sunday School and the "Music Teachers Association" for music lessons on weekdays.

The Front Doors

Guardian Angels grace the main doors of Gloria Dei.  The archangel Michael is the image of God's power to destroy evil and bring justice.  The arch angel Gabriel sounds the last trumpet when God's reign is fulfilled and all creation restored.

The Altar

The altar is the tree of life from which the bread and the wine of the Eucharist feeds the community.

The South Window

The feature window in the south wall represents water.  Water as noted above in Genesis is the basic element of creation.  Water cleanses and sustains life.  There are a multitude of "water stories" in the Bible.

This window also calls to mind the water-bound community that our parish serves on the North Shore.  The red line through the lower centre of the window represents the Upper Levels Highway running the length of the North Shore and right past the church.  The Burrard Inlet with its piers and quays is also evoked as the form of a ship is seen passing under the Lions Gate Bridge connecting us to the rest of Greater Vancouver.  Expanses of water call us to be part of the mission of God on the North Shore and beyond.

Sing brother wind; with clouds and rain
you grow the gifts of fruit and grain:
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Dear sister water, useful clear,
make music for your Lord to hear:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The East Window

The east window over the church entrance represents fire.  God first appears to Israel's leader, Moses, in the fire of a burning bush that is not consumed.  The coming of the Holy Spirit to the early Christian community in Jerusalem after the ascension of the risen Christ is accompanied by a vision, "Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them" [Action 2:3].  Each time we leave worship we are reminded of the energy and power of fire.

The North Window

The newest window, the window in the north wall, near the organ, is the earth window.  It represents the earth and the earth's place in the universe and in the mind of God.  Its diverse colors and shapes interplay with the light bringing us a near living form with which to interact day by day and season by season.
