Christmas Memories with Pastor Larry Denef
Our family Christmas traditions and preparations of the Christmas tree were carefully organized and orchestrated each year by my mother. My mother thoughtfully arranged the nativity scene under the tree. Each year she would search for cedar branches, and the children were not allowed in the living room until Christmas Eve. Our Christmas Eve started at church, and after the service the family returned home. As a child for several Christmases, I had asked for a bicycle. Sadly, again this year, I looked for my bicycle and again there was no bicycle. Santa Claus must have been too busy. My dad could see my disappointment and said to me, “perhaps because it’s too hard for Santa to get a bicycle down the chimney?” So, my dad and I talked about this for a while, and finally dad asked me, “…if Santa could not get the bicycle down the chimney, where else Santa might have put a Christmas bicycle?” Larry replied, “perhaps on the porch?” His dad said, “…why don’t you go out and see if Santa put your bicycle on the porch.” I went to the porch and there was my Christmas bicycle, that I had wished and had asked Santa for three years. My Christmas bicycle from Santa had arrived, and I was filled with great happiness and very thankful for this gift. This is a wonderful Christmas memory for me, that even now, I reflect and cherish, along with other cherished Christmas memories. |

Music speaks what cannot be expressed ,
soothes the mind and gives it rest ,
heals the heart and makes it whole ,
flows from heaven to the soul ..
