Sunshine and Prayer Bubbles until we Meet Again!
We had a lot to be thankful for last Sunday - beautiful sunshine, towering cedars to give us shade, delicious food, and one another’s company. We gave thanks for the gift of the gospel - the good news of God’s welcome for all as we sang our gathering song “For All the Children.” And we gave voice to the hope that is within us that God’s kin’dom of justice and love will be established - the daily news notwithstanding - through the rhythms of the African spiritual, “Freedom is Coming.” In our prayers, we gave thanks for all the creatures that live on Grouse Mountain, for our Community Garden and the opportunity to share its bounty, for gift of community and the variety of ways we express God’s love through our own lives. So often our prayers seems abstract - only words. So to give visible expression to our joy we punctuated our litany of thanks by blowing bubbles - symbols of our prayers rising up to heaven. It brought our the child in each one of us - and reminded us, “Unless you become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of God.” Our outdoor service was also the occasion to give thanks for the Hutson Family and bless them on their way as they move to Vancouver Island. We are glad that thanks to technology they will remain part of our community through our livestream services in the Fall as well as Zoom Council meetings. Thommy, Geoffrey and Harper, we hope you visit often IRL too! Thank-you to everyone who contributed to our beautiful time together - Shelley, Lin, Rolly, Ken J. and Jason for the delicious burgers, Marcia and our singers, Kathleen and Ellen for getting us in rhythm teaching us some new worshnip songs. For more photos to see click here - with thanks to Ken P. and Al J. for the pics. |

Last WordSo there Must be, somewhere, Goodness and Truth June 30 is the birthday of Polish poet Czeslaw Milosz, born in Szetejnie, Lithuania, in 1911. Traveling with his father through Russia, Milosz was fascinated by the region’s different religions: Catholicism, Greek Orthodox and Protestant Christianity, Judaism, and pagan mysticism. He translated many books of the Bible into Polish, and was particularly fascinated by the Book of Job and the Psalms. Asked how he arrived at faith in God, he said,
