Our ecumenical partner in the Holy Land  - the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Holy Land ( ELCJHL) shared an update on how Christmas was in the region this year in their December 2023 newsletter, "Christmas in Bethlehem, usually a time of joy and celebration, was a time of mourning and heartbreak this year." You can read their words of sorrow in their update here.   And be sure to scroll down and read the powerful words from Bishop Dr. Sani Ibrahim Asar in his Christmas message. I also found the prayers and songs of the children  particularly moving and poignant.  You can view the video on Youtube here.

Our National Church (ELCIC) has aput together a list of updates, statements and resources on the ELCIC website which you can view here.

At the beginning of November, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada launched an appeal to support our partners in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL).

To date, ELCIC support for this appeal has enabled the goal of $263,000 to have reached past the half-way point.“I am absolutely delighted with the support of our ELCIC members,” says ELCIC National Bishop Susan Johnson. “I urge you, if you haven’t already made a donation yet, please do so.”
