Evolution and Creation Theology

A Discussion Forum, with Dr. James D. Berger - Sunday, September 14, 2025

In this church Season of Creation (Sept. 1 - Oct. 4) dedicated to prayer, reflection, and celebration of God as Creator, we are pleased to host a discussion forum on the topic of Evolution and Creation Theology. Dr. James D. Berger, retired emiritus professor in the Dept. of Zoology at UBC will present and guide our discussion.

The creation narrative of Genesis 1 proclaims that the Word of God calls creation into being and names it as good, as very good.
In this presentation Dr. Berger will  briefly review some aspects of the  development of both the physical universe and of living things and how they might relate to our understanding of the Theology of Creation. Dr. Berger sees this as a dialogue between our knowledge of the creation and how we think about God as Creator.

Faithful Participation: Living in God’s Creation

A 5-week devotional series inspired by Margaret Barker’s theology of creation - Monday, September 8, 2025

Week 1: Creation as Gift

Scripture: Genesis 1:1–31; Psalm 104

Reflection:

The world around us is not ours to control — it is God’s gift. Every creature, river, and mountain exists because of God’s love. Seeing creation as gift invites gratitude and wonder, reminding us that we are part of God’s ongoing story.

Action Step:

Take a contemplative walk outdoors. Notice three things in creation you often overlook and give thanks.

"Creation is not ours to command; it is ours to honor."
