Reconciling in Christ SundaySunday, March 10, 2024 Fourteen years ago, Gloria Dei made the difficult and courageous decision to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation. This signifies a public and intentional covenant or commitment to welcome, celebrate and advocate for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions. In 2021 we made that public commitment more visible by wrapping the cedar tree near our front entrance in rainbow colors. But that is not enough. In a climate of rising hatred for LGBTQ and trans people, where churches with dangerous and hateful messages are loud and numerous, it is paramount that we regularly renew our commitment to full inclusion, so that all of God’s children know they are safe and welcomed in this place. Come join the joy of renewed commitment and feel free to wear bright colors! For more infomation visit: http://gloriadei.ca/events/reconciling-in-christ-sunday/2024-03-10

The Writing is on the WallNew Church Signage Did you know that Gloria Dei has a Sign Committee (a sub-committee of Church Council) that has been hard at work, brain-storming ideas, researching companies and deliberating the best options to replace our church sign which was damaged beyond repair last February when a two-car collision crashed ino it. After much thought, the Committee decided on a two prong process. First, the church name with bold lettering would be installed on the brick wall with the stained glass cross facing Gladwin Drive. After this phase is completed the Sign Committee will adress the issue of replacing the wood sign. This sign will include more information - such as our website, and time of Sunday Services. Before lettering could be installed, an overgrown tree shrub blocking the view of both the stained glass cross and wall had to be removed. Thanks to Gaire M. and crew this was done last Fall. For the design and typography the Committee reached out to our own Heather Haughn, who is a graphic designer. She graciously offered to help on a pro bono basis. As a result we have a professionally designed sign - the proportions, lettering, and size are perfect! Thank-you Heather! The Committee has engaged Zen Digital for production and installation of the acrylic lettering which may begin as soon as this coming week. The image in the post is Heather's mock-up of the design. Next time you're at church, rather that walk in through the East or North Exit, take a walk to the front of the original building (now our church hall) and admire our new look. |
