Transgender and Non-Binary RealitiesTuesday, March 19, 2024, 6:30-8pm (PDT) From Pastor Vida: Last Sunday, we renewed out commitment to be an inclusive and welcoming congregation for all. The sermon ended with a prayer: "May we continue to learn to be a safe place for all." This involves educating ourselves about sexual orientation and gender identity, and exploring new ways to be in solidarity and celebration with LGBTQIA2S+ communities in the church and beyond. What providential timing that Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon has provided us with just such an opportunity to continue to learn and put actions behind our words. They are hosting a webinar this coming Tuesday, "Transgender and Non-Binary Realities." The webinar will be a panel discussion featuring parents of transgender and non-binary youth speaking from faith-based perspectives. I am strongly encouraging all of our membership to participate - you don't have to travel, or drive to a meeting. You don't even have to register - All you have to do is click on the Zoom link below from the comfort of your own home. Look forward to learning with you on Tuesday! Glossary transgender - is an adjective used to describe a person whose gender identity is different from the gender that was assigned to them at birth -- usually "male" of female." Transgender is an umbrella term many different gender identities and expressions. Some people may medically, socially, and legally transition, but doing ethese things is not a rqurement to be transgender. non-binary - for the most part, people typically fall into two categories: male or female—that idea is known as a gender binary. But not everyone fits so perfectly into the man-or-woman categories. Non-binary is an adjective describing a person who deos not idenity as a man or a woman. Some non-binary people also identify as transgender, but not all non-binary people identify that way.
