New Kidney, Ancient Spirit: Cari's Story of Faith and Life

New Kidney, Ancient Spirit: Cari's Story of Faith and Life

- Friday, July 4, 2025

As many of you know, our sister Cari underwent transplant surgery in 2023 to receive a new kidney.

This year on the occasion of Indigenous Peoples Day, the BC Transplant Society did a feature story about Cari and her journey of faith and healing. You can read it here

Food, Fellowship and Song

Food, Fellowship and Song

- Friday, July 4, 2025

Following our worship service last Sunday, we gathered for a potluck lunch before many of us "scatter" on summer holidays and travel. A highlight was the performance by our own homegrown Ukrainian women’s vocal ensemble, Viva Voice. They began with It’s a Beautiful Day by Michael Bublé — a fitting tribute to love, life, and the simple joy of peaceful days in Canada. Their voices then carried us through Marigold, stirring a tender longing for homeland, and Plakala (She Cried), a powerful song of sorrow and resilience that reminds us we can rise above pain and fly again. It was an afternoon rich in food, song, and the shared hope that whatever summer brings, we are bound together in gratitude and community.

What Does it Mean to Be the Church Today?

What Does it Mean to Be the Church Today?

Our National Convention is Just one week away! In less than one week's time, Lutherans from across the ELCIC will gather from July 10-13 in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba for the 2025 ELCIC National Convention.

Pre-Convention Work
What does it mean to be a church for today, and for the future? It’s a question at the heart of an exciting new initiative within the ELCIC, one that’s calling the church to imagine bold possibilities while facing present-day realities.

At convention, the consultant team working on this initiative will be inviting delegates to take part in table group discussions. In preparation for this important work, you are invited to reflect on the following three questions.

  • Where are you seeing signs of hope in your local congregation?
  • Where are you seeing signs of hope in your synod?
  • Where are you seeing signs of hope at the national level?

Please share your personal thoughts on these three questions prior to convention. This will allow the consultants to hear the thoughts of individuals through this survey and those of a collective nature when we meet in person in July. Please click here to complete this survey.
